Description:
Technical Service Engineer (TSE) is responsible for surveying, designing (with AutoCAD software) and managing capital and maintenance projects. TSE will ensure effective management and direction of projects, both with internal and external customers, in accordance with sound engineering practices and approved railway standards, specifications, procedures, within the CN operating plan.
Duties:
- Perform surveying (including GPS, robotic total station, and traditional methods) as project plans require.
- Perform track design (including horizontal and vertical alignments, cross sections, etc.) utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Develop, prioritize and manage multiple projects and budgets to maximize asset utilization and cost control within project(s) scope and approved budget.
- Create project tenders, and handles the selection, award, and management of contracts to contractors and consultants to fulfill project objectives.
- Provide accurate costing estimates and technical assistance for internal projects.
- Review local, Municipal, State, and Federal projects affecting CN property, including coordinating the work and project budgets with external parties.
- Represent and protect interest of CN in external negotiation(s) with Federal, State, Municipal, and local organizations in implementing CN projects, as well as dealing with regulatory matters.
- Communicate with public and private concerns when necessary to ensure there are no ill effects to CN property.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrated surveying knowledge and ability.
- Demonstrated AutoCAD design knowledge and ability.
- Minimum 2 years construction experience.
- Minimum 2 years project management experience or equivalent.
- Good computer skills; especially working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word), TIS.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills. (i.e. prior experience negotiating contracts).
Preferred Skills:
- EIT and/or LSIT / PE and/or PLS; preference to Civil, Construction, Surveying or Geotechnical background.
- 3+ years construction experience.
- 3+ years project management experience.
- Highly mobile (i.e. willing to relocate)
- Experience working in SAP, TMDS, GIS.
