Overview:
Seeking experienced administrator with good public relation skills. This is a professional position serving as the Administrative Head of the County’s Zoning, Planning and Land Information Department and overseeing enforcement of the comprehensive zoning ordinance, uniform dwelling code, and other state administrative rules and regulations.
Job Functions:
Position is responsible for directing all Zoning, Planning, Land Information and Real Property Listing for the County, including administration of the recently adopted comprehensive revision of the County Zoning Ordinance. Enforces applicable La Crosse County ordinances, such as Floodplain, Zoning, and Shoreland Zoning, NonMetallic Mining and Telecommunication Facilities. Provides zoning assistance, ordinance interpretation and guidance particularly within the unincorporated areas of La Crosse County. Represents the County in a professional manner, acting to maintain a positive and respectful working relationship with local elected boards, municipal assessors, clerks and treasurers. Strives to maintain the highest professional standards in the assessment and taxation of real and personal property in La Crosse County. Supervises, directs and manages the activities of the Zoning, Planning and Land Information Department personnel. Supports and guides the administration of Zoning under the guidance of the Planning, Resources and Development Committee and Board of Adjustment, and the La Crosse County Board. Oversees the development and maintenance of the county’s Geographic Information System (GIS) whereby County departments access a land records base of information. Oversees and maintains accurate lists, maps and descriptions of real and personal property ownership in La Crosse County, including those in the villages and cities.
Training and Experience:
- Bachelors in Civil Engineering, Planning, Public Administration, or related field (preferred).
- Five to ten years experience in the administration, interpretation and enforcement of Wisconsin zoning, planning and land use within the government sector.
- Strong preference for previous supervisory experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills
- May consider other equivalent combination of responsible experience and training.
