Responsible for carrying out the day-to-day work of the Rideshare Etc. Program, which promotes alternatives to driving alone, as well as supporting the urban and regional transportation planning work of the Transportation Planning Services Section of the Planning Division for the Madison Area Transportation Planning Board (the Metropolitan Planning Organization, MPO). The work involves directing contacts with potential program participants and working with regional employers and other state and local agency staff involved in transportation demand management (TDM)/ride sharing activities and programs. The work also involves development and implementation of marketing and public outreach activities to promote commute options. Other responsibilities include providing assistance to other MPO staff in the preparation of regional transportation plans and studies. Position requires travel within the Madison area and periodic work on evenings and weekends.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of travel demand management practices and techniques as well as some basic knowledge of land use/transportation planning principles. Strong marketing and oral and written communication skills. Comfortable with public speaking. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities and to exercise judgment and discretion in determining priorities. Attention to detail. Ability to compile, analyze and report travel, transportation facility/service, and other data related to travel demand management. Basic map reading skills. Ability to prepare graphic materials and maps (with GIS staff assistance) to illustrate commute options and support transportation plans. Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite applications. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, employers, and other staff.

Training and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Urban/Regional Planning, Urban Studies, Geography, Marketing, or related studies or programs. One year of experience in transportation planning, TDM/rideshare coordination, community outreach/marketing, or other areas related to the position. Other combination of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered. At least two years of experience in TDM/rideshare coordination, community outreach/marketing or other experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this position required to be hired at the Planner 2 level.
