BUSINESS OBJECTIVE: Within the Technical Services Division, MMSD’s GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Department summer Intern will complete a number of short duration analysis and data creation projects that directly support regional water quality initiatives.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Intern will work directly with the MMSD GIS Analyst to complete region-wide historic streams GIS layer from disparate electronic data sources. Additional data creation, analysis, and map making will be assigned based upon skills and experience.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES FOR STUDENTS WILL BE: MMSD’s 2012 summer GIS Intern will gain experience in a regional government office and exposure to GIS software, related hardware, and peripheral equipment. Individual will work with a team of varied professional experiences and contribute to an important regional sustainability project.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of two years of college experience with a minimum of two GIS college level classes. Basic data editing and map making skills using ESRI’s ArcMap version 10. Experience with computers, Microsoft Office (including Outlook), office equipment.
DURATION: 14 weeks
DATES: Between May 1 and September 15 (depending on student schedule)
