Description: 

The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the development and maintenance of the Land Records Department’s GIS. Secondarily, this position is responsible for the performance of office management duties required in support of the Land Records Department.

 

Examples of Duties:

  • Compile and maintain GIS datasets in ESRI geodatabase and shapefile format. Example datasets include geocoded road centerlines, hydrography, topography, parcels with join to assessment database, PLSS, rural addressing, and minor civil divisions.
  • Maintain, in both hard copy and electronic formats, a comprehensive database and geographically referenced filing system of all Bayfield County plats and maps of survey, abandoned railroad rights-of-way, highway projects, historical maps, survey monument records, and survey field notes.
  • Create thematic maps and projects. These special purpose projects are for an array of clients for a variety of purposes. 

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in geography, land records, surveying, planning, cartography, engineering, or closely related field; or equivalent work experience consisting of at least three years of progressively responsible work experience in GIS. 
  • Knowledge of property descriptions, principles of surveying, legal documents related to property ownership, aerial photography, automated map production, GIS development and analysis, database management and design, coordinate systems and projections, and quality assurance and control.
  • Significant computer and software experience and proficiency using various GIS application software. Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS-Editor and in database development is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated or verifiable experience using Internet Applications and understand the basics of interactive mapping web design for ESRI, Google, and/or Open Source.
