Summary:
This is a professional work position in the county planning program. Work includes advising local government bodies regarding planning and land use issues, developing and implementing plans, programs and policies related to strategic and comprehensive planing, including Farmland Preservation and water quality planning. Work will also include preparation of grant applications, monitoring grants, periodic progress reports
Work involves responsibility for the design preparation and implementation of planning and development programs. This position works at the county level and also at the town, village, and city levels and requires a creative and flexible combination of both regional and local perspectives.
Essential Functions:
- Gather, analyze and present data in the form of written, graphic, and oral reports used before boards, commissions, public hearing, and citizen groups. Plan, coordinate and participate in the preparation of strategic, comprehensive, farmland preservation and water quality, planning projects, programs, policies and ordinances.
- Tabulate and compile data, citizen surveys, population estimates and projections, and other background information for reports.
- Execute major planning programs such as Comprehensive plans and plan updates for the County and for towns, as well as various other County programs.
- Meet with official bodies; technical advisory committees and citizen groups to present information related to planning studies.
- Prepare population and housing statistics and other informational reports for distribution to County departments, other jurisdictions and the public.
- Perform research, planning and technical analysis for planning projects, and prepare reports from studies.
- Perform spatial analysis and produce maps using geographical information system technology.
- Prepare periodic progress reports, including annual reports.
- Prepare, file grant applications, solicit consultant proposals and administer such programs.
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
- Perform related work as required.
Education, Training & Experience:
- Graduation from a four (4) year college or university with major coursework in planning, public or business administration, with the desirable qualification of a master’s degree in planning or related field.
- Considerable work experience in the planning field that includes above mentioned areas.
