The purpose of this position is to maintain the U.S. public land survey system, the maintenance of the county’s geodetic control network and maintaining the county-wide parcel mapping system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Assists in all land records modernization tasks in Chippewa County such as participating in land records policy committees, maintaining the county-wide parcel mapping system, and evaluating software for Geographic Information System (GIS).
  • Assists in coordinating land records modernization with various County Departments, government agencies and private sector.
  • Records and indexes documents filed in the Planning & Zoning Department.
  • Maintains the U.S. Public Land Survey system.
  • Maintains the Geodetic control system for County and private sector.
  • Provides information to County, municipal, township, State and other officials, and other interested persons regarding County Land records and Land Records Modernization.
  • Assists in the development of the department budget(s).
  • At the direction of the Planning & Zoning Administrator, reviews all submitted surveys and other documents for compliance with applicable local and state laws and federal regulations.
  • Performs land surveys for county departments and affiliated agencies at the direction of the Planning & Zoning Administrator.
  • Recommends and participates in GIS application development and analyzes tasks utilizing expertise in computer aided drafting (CAD), image processing, GIS program products and applying knowledge in land records modernization and standards development.
  • Makes copies of maps.  Answers telephone and department related questions.
  • Other duties as requested or assigned by the Planning & Zoning Administrator.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in land surveying or related field and at least 3 (three) years of land surveying practice as a licensed land surveyor in Wisconsin; or
  • Associate Degree in land surveying or related field and five (5) years of land surveying practice as a licensed land surveyor in Wisconsin; or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. 
  • Wisconsin Surveyor’s License required.
  • Valid Driver’s license and cell phone required.
