We are seeking an individual to perform ArcGIS programming and scripting in support of the storage, use, maintenance, and dissemination of GIS data. Develop and sustain policies and techniques for GIS data automation, database structure, access and use of the data by staff, and metadata collection.

Responsibilities:

Perform ArcGIS programming. Create and maintain ArcGIS Server internet web map portal serving NSDI-compliant dataset. Perform programming in support of ISGS projects and the Illinois Natural Resources Geospatial Data Clearinghouse. Maintain and improve the ISGS GIS database. Investigate new or developing technologies for data access and distribution. Compile, maintain, and promote the distribution of GIS data and metadata over the Internet/Intranet; may direct and coordinate work of hourly staff or interns to enter and review data. Provide training on GIS data access, use, and related activities to staff. Maintain existing GIS data policies and procedures; recommend new policies and procedures needed to ensure proper operation of the GIS data. Give presentations and provide user training on GIS database, data holdings, and related topics.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in geography, geographic information systems, or computer science with a minimum of 5 years proven experience in geospatial technologies. Master’s degree is preferred. Demonstrated ability to program ArcGIS applications, including ArcMap scripts, ArcGIS Server, and ArcSDE. Familiarity with Microsoft .NET, VB.NET, Java, Flex, and Silverlight technologies. Demonstrated experience in website coding and providing web-based content. Must be proficient with standard coding languages (HTML, XHTML, CSS), web design software (Dreamweaver), scripting (JavaScript, PHP), content management tools, graphics/multimedia (Macromedia/Adobe Fireworks, Flash). Demonstrated ability to create compelling visual designs and thorough familiarity with raster and vector graphics software such as Photoshop and Illustrator. Familiarity with Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Knowledge of web accessibility standards. Ability and desire to learn new technologies and skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to prioritize, accomplish tasks, and meet deadlines. Good communication skills to establish friendly, open, and clear communication with others. Ability and willingness to effectively contribute as part of a team.
