Health Specialist - Planner
Primary Objective
To support the Division in the effective collection, analysis and use of health data to guide interventions that impact the health of the community.
Examples of Duties
- Collects, analyzes and summarizes health data and trends
- Develops written reports and visual presentations for Division’s health data
- Serves as a resource to Division director, program managers and staff on health data
- Develops and implements evaluation plans
- Participates in grant writing activities within the Division
- Collaborates with other public health professionals in the development of regional and statewide strategies to improve data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Determines appropriate uses and limitations of both quantitative and qualitative data
- Develops and updates community health report cards on various public health priority issues
- Develops and implements electronic and paper survey tools
- Assists with local public health assessment and survey development
- Work effectively across cultures
- Report to work in a public health emergency
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree in public or community health, epidemiology, or related field
- One year planning experience
- One year of experience collecting, analyzing and summarizing health data
- One year experience working with SPSS or comparable statistical software package
- Two years of experience using software database
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Desirable Qualifications
- Master’s degree in public or community health, or related field
- Work experience in public health
- Additional experience working with SPSS (statistical software package), Survey Monkey, Access, GIS or other software packages
- Experience in grant writing
- Experience in developing and implementing evaluation plans
- Ability to interpret, present and explain data to key partners and the general public
