This position serves as the official County Surveyor and Land Information Officer for Douglas County and is responsible for carrying out the statutory requirements of the Surveyor’s office.

Full benefit package.  Starting salary based on education and experience.

Test Requirements:  Technical Structured Interview, Background Reference/Investigation and (at time of contingent job offer), Physical Examination.

 Essential Duties:
Responsible for maintenance of existing survey archives; development and execution of section corner remonumentation program.  Review of plats and certified survey maps advising registered land surveyors and the general public.  Assists in the administration of the County subdivision ordinance.  May supervise Land Information office staff.  Coordinates with City of Superior GIS Department.  Serves a member of Land Information Council and reports to Zoning Committee.  Performs other duties as assigned by the Planning and Zoning Administrator and County Board.
 Minimum Qualifications:
Associate or four-year related degree preferred.  Must be Registered Land Surveyor, licensed in the State of Wisconsin, preferably with a minimum of fives years experirence in land surveying after registration.  Trained in computer mapping and database management with two years automated mapping.  Must possess a valid Driver’s License to operate County vehicle.
 Supplemental Information:

Knowledge Requried:  Thorough knowledge of surveying techniques, plane and geodetic; Interpretation of subdivision control ordinance; legal descriptions of land; Global Positioning Systems; Procedures for the restoration of lost and obliterated government survey corners; Mathematics associated with surveying; Zoning ordinanaces and water regulatory codes; Geographic Information Systems; Must posess a working knowledge of the following software and mapping operations:  MS Access, ArcGIS, Autocad, MS windows.

Skills Required:  Ability to use surveying instruments and make accurate surveys; Work in a team environment; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with County and City officials, employees and the general public; Establish and maintain accurate survey records; Supervise and layout work of personnel assigned.

Physical Activities/Requirements:
Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motion.  Light Work:  Exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sendentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.  Manual dexterity is required to operate the technical instruments and equipment appropriate to surveying.  Work is performed both indoors in an office setting and outdoors, which may require extensive traversing of rough terrain.
