The Department of Administration, Division of Intergovernmental Relations is looking for creative team members with positive attitudes who are effective communicators, responsible and interested in growing and developing. The Research Analyst – Advanced classification is assigned to Pay Schedule/Pay Range 08-03. A six-month probationary period will be required. Located in Madison, the starting salary for this position will be between $45,990 and $75,884 annually, plus excellent benefits.

Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Intergovernmental Services Team Leader, this position spearheads the state’s population estimates and projections program, and supports State Data Center Activities. Leading the state’s population estimate and projection programs is approximately half-time and providing technical assistance in census data and other demographic expertise occupies the remaining time. This position also utilizes various analytical tools such as geographic information systems and statistical analysis software. Verbal and written presentation of technical material in lay terms by telephone and in person is key to this position.

*Special Notes:  A background check will be required on any hire new to state service.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of estimates and projections methodologies and statistics and extensive experience with quantitative data, particularly large administrative data bases.
  • Well-developed ability to translate demographic data into concise, easily understood materials for broad dissemination.
  • Ability to work independently and make complex decision within the scope of the position’s responsibility; as well as communicating effectively, including public speaking, with a wide range of diverse audiences.
  • Extensive knowledge of census files and data definitions is mandatory to be successful in this position. The ability to analyze existing data, and manipulate large databases to meet data users needs and to research various population related issues is a fundamental skill.
  • Extensive knowledge of Geographic Information Systems is necessary to conduct various spatial analyses. It is also a useful tool in the department of various estimation and projection techniques. Well-qualified candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in sociology, demography, or a related field.
