The purpose of this position is to provide a high level of geographic information support to citizens, staff, and elected officials. Primary duties include land information management, GIS mapping and programming knowledge, and assistance with tasks assigned to the Department. A qualified individual should have a wealth of knowledge relating to ESRI GIS software products (Mainly ArcGIS & ArcServer). Further, GIS related programming knowledge is a must as the city will be implementing a new interactive mapping solution utilizing Geocortex software in 2013 of which this position will be responsible for. The position will be housed in the Community Development Department of the City of Muskego and is expected to start in the late spring of 2013. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Develops and maintains citywide and department specific interactive mapping web based GIS applications.
  • Coordinates GIS activities and communications between city departments and external partners.
  • Develops integrated GIS solutions to improve efficiencies within and between city departments.
  • Maintains and develops city GIS layers, datasets, and workflows.
  • Prepares and maintains electronic and hardcopy maps.
  • Undertakes special projects which require the use and analysis of GIS data.
  • Assists in providing support for geographic information system users.
  • Utilizes ESRI products in performing GIS tasks specifically utilizing the abilities found in ArcGIS and ArcServer products.
  • Is knowledgeable of department enforced ordinances including zoning and land division requirements.
  • Provides various Community Development Department related tasks and special projects as required by the Community
  • Development Director. Such tasks and projects may relate to planning, economic development, or building permit review needs.
  • Works with the public (counter/phone), as required, in guiding them thru their questions relating to Community Development related issues.
  • Provides website update, design and support for Department as needed.
  • Performs field inspections to verify land information and form accurate representations of physical and man‐made environments.
  • Attends and participates in public meetings as needed.

MINIMUM QAULIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography or related field, two or more years urban or regional planning experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Valid Wisconsin motor vehicle operator’s license required. CAD and GIS experience required, with prior experience in AutoDesk and ESRI platforms preferred. GIS ESRI experience with ArcServer is required. Various computer program programming knowledge (VBA, etc.) is desired.
