POSITION SUMMARY AND JOB DUTIES:
The intern will work closely with the County Surveyor on a variety of projects in both the field and office. Work will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Perpetuation of Public Land Survey System, (PLSS), corners and accessories as part of County remonumentation efforts.
- Scanning of paper maps and records as part of the records modernization initiative. Paper copies of surveys and records are being scanned and made available via the internet.
- Maintenance of the County survey database
- Entering survey information into the County GIS program, (ArcMap 10.1)
- Other duties as assigned
SUCCESS FACTORS (KSA’S):
- Familiar with GNSS equipment and technologies
- General knowledge of GIS with preference for ESRI products
- Familiar with CAD programs
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office
- Ability, after training, to complete tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to problem solve and recognize during that process when asking for assistance is needed, as opposed to guessing
JOB REQUIREMENTS, EDUCTATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
- Enrolled in an accredited Surveying Engineering, Land Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, GIS and/orland surveying certificate program
- Prior intern or work experience will be considered, but is not required
Work involves walking, sitting, standing, bending, twisting, turning, carrying, digging, driving, lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs. in uneven terrain.
Ability to physically perform typical surverying tasks in all sorts of sometimes challenging weather conditions.
Working conditions will be a roughly 60/40 field to office mix largely dependent upon the weather, public meetings and scheduled and unscheduled visits by the public for records inspection.
Ability to represent the department and COunty well during interaction with the public in both the field and office settings.
