The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is looking for someone with Light Detection and Ranging expertise to lead the department’s statewide survey and mapping units in the use of LiDAR. As part of the Bureau of Technical Services Photogrammetry Unit, this position is headquartered at the Materials Laboratory off of Kinsman Boulevard in Madison.

Job Duties:   

This position provides statewide survey and mapping unit support in the implementation and usage of LiDAR.  It applies land surveying skills and knowledge in the development of 3D maps; and supports consultant contracts, the aerial imaging photogrammetric process, and addresses aerial imagery Open Records Law requests. 

This position is responsible for coordinating and scheduling LiDAR operations with Region staff including the establishment of survey control and setup, operation of LiDAR field scanning, and office processing in support of measuring topography, structures, quantities, etc. for transportation projects.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   

  • Knowledge/experience with LiDAR theory, survey techniques/procedures, and software as they relate to transportation improvement projects.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to gather, assemble, and present survey data.
  • Ability to conduct research and analysis of new product information.
