TRC is currently an entry GIS Specialist to work in our Remediation Practice. Project work will be primarily be environmental in nature, including site remediation, permitting, and responses to agency requests. Typical work will primarily involve map and figure production to present complex analytical data, geographic data creation, data editing, data management, data analysis, research, and reporting. ArcGIS for desktop 10.1+ graphic design tools, and other necessary software applications will be used to assist other GIS staff with large project work and will be used to independently serve other projects. The GIS Specialist will work with engineers, hydrogeologists, project managers, and other technical staff in the Madison office and other TRC offices nationwide. Organization, communication, and cartographic design skills will be essential to efficiently produce quality outputs, while meeting tight deadlines on multiple projects. Candidates will be expected to work independently, with minimal oversight, and complete their work in an efficient and accurate manner.
Experience:
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Environmental Studies, Engineering or a related field
- A post graduate GIS Certificate or 1-5 years of demonstrated experience in using GIS products with related environmental management
- Knowledge of relational database principals and design
- Knowledge of coordinate systems and map projections Experience using ESRI’s ArcGIS for Desktop suite of software
- Knowledge of relational database principles and design, data management, vector feature creation and editing, geoprocessing using ArcToolbox, raster manipulation and analysis (Spatial Analyst extension), georeferencing and digitizing data, TIN and 3D data management (3D Analyst).
- Design experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Microstation and working between platforms
- Familiarity with ArcSDE technology, implementation of ArcGIS for Server based web-maps and mobile applications
- Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and Access)
- Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
- Web-development skills
- Experience manipulating data for use on GPS units (Trimble, Garmin, etc)
- Experience with data management with Microsoft SQL Server
- Programming experience applicable to GIS or other commonly used software (Python, VBA, etc.)
