Organizational Function and Responsibilities: |
This position is responsible for instruction in the Civil Engineering Technology program at the associate degree level. Instructors develop instructional strategies and curriculum as a regular part of their work, and are encouraged to serve on committees. This position reports to the Dean – School of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology. |

Essential Duties: |
The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. 1. Responsible for instruction in the Civil Engineering Technician Program including, but not limited to the following courses: Surveying 1, 2, and 3; Civil Drawing 1; Introduction to GIS; Land Survey 1 and 2; and Special Problems in Civil Engineering. 2. Plan, develop and implement appropriate instructional and alternative delivery strategies, including but not limited to, on-line course delivery, hybrid courses, accelerated, active learning, and flipped classrooms. 3. Instruct students in classes and participate in college service activities as assigned by the immediate supervisor. 4. Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments, tests, grades, course content, career concerns, and other academic matters. 5. Evaluate student performance in courses taught by the instructor. 6. Actively work with other personnel in student recruitment, retention and job placement, including strategies focused on the recruitment and retention of minority and women students. 7. Develop and maintain curriculum in collaboration with department/division staff; participation in instructional and curriculum articulation activities with other programs and other divisions of instruction. 8. Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling, etc. 9. Assist students in developing work experience assignments such as internships, work study assignments, team projects, etc. 10. Maintain certification as an instructor with the Wisconsin Technical College System. 11. Comply with all aspects of Board policies, work rules, and the appropriate collective bargaining agreement. 12. Attend division, department and advisory committee meetings; participate in appropriate staff development activities such as diversity awareness, technology training, etc. 13. Demonstrate a commitment to the college values of excellence, respect and integrity. 15. Develop, with other Civil Engineering Technology faculty, continuing education offerings for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors. |
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
1. Proficiency with contemporary surveying instrumentation including, but not limited to, total stations, data collectors, and RTK-GPS. 2. Proficiency in field to finish systems integrating digital data collection/stakeout with computer-based engineering design software. 3. Knowledge and understanding of Wisconsin Statue/Code and Common Law affecting boundary creation and re-establishment. 4. Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including the use of distance education and other methods of alternative delivery as well as strategies that address closing the gap in student access and achievement across race, gender and disability. 5. Knowledge and ability to infuse multicultural perspectives into course content and delivery. 6. Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds. 7. Skill in oral and written communications. 8. Ability to interact with business, industry, and professional organizations to establish partnerships. 9. Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including the use of distance education and other methods of alternative delivery. 10. Willingness and ability to travel to other regional campuses. |
Qualifications: |
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, closely related discipline from an accredited institution* or equivalent**. 2. Two (2) years (4000 hours) of related work experience in a position in which a student would logically work after graduation from the program. 3. Wisconsin Surveying Licensure or ability to achieve professional credential within 12 months of hire. * a public or private educational system accredited by a nationally recognized agency or association, or by the U.S. Department of Education. **Educational equivalency: Occupational experience combined with education and training preparing a person for the occupation totaling seven (7) years or 14,000 hours shall be equivalent to a bachelor’s degree. |
