The Department of Geography-Geology at the University of Wisconsin Colleges is accepting applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geography at its UW-Fox Valley campus to start in the Fall of 2014.


JOB DETAILS:

As teacher-scholars, we seek candidates with a strong commitment to undergraduate education and a willingness to engage students within and beyond the walls of the traditional classroom. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to quality undergraduate teaching and learning. Knowledge of instructional technology will strengthen application.

Teaching expectation is to teach 24 to 30 contact hours per academic year. An example teaching load may consist of the following:

Semester I:
GEO 101 Introduction to Cultural Geography (3 contact hours lecture)
GEO 106 Introduction to Geographic Information Sciences/GIS (3 contact hours lecture, 2.2 contact hours lab)
GEO 110 World Regional Geography (3 contact hours lecture)

Semester II:
GEO 110 World Regional Geography (3 contact hours lecture)
GEO 125 Physical Geography (3 contact hours lecture, two 4.4 contact hour labs)

This tenure-track position requires establishing a record of excellence in teaching, providing institutional and community service, and a strong record of professional scholarly development. Faculty expectations include professional development (broadly defined and including research), participation in service to the institution including shared governance, participation in student advising, assessment of student learning, and engaging students in the first year.

The department encourages its faculty to engage in understanding and developing new effective teaching strategies, techniques and technologies, including accelerated and hybrid courses, online courses, distance education, service learning, and interdisciplinary courses on campus.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 Ph.D. in Geography or closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered, provided the PhD is obtained prior to the official contractual starting date.
