Xcel Energy’s Geospatial Organization located in Denver, Colorado has an opportunity to add a Project Manager to the team.

Summary

The Geospatial Project Manager provides project leadership to plan, coordinate, implement and deliver multiple, crossfunctional project solutions and initiatives varying in complexity, scope, and duration that satisfy business needs and requirements. Partners with other business units to improve current processes and provide leadership and direction to implement new processes. Consults, collaborates and serves as a liaison between Business Systems (I/T) and key business areas to create overall project plans, including business and technical elements that align with corporate strategy. Initiates change management activities ensuring system users adopt new technology to improve productivity and ensure adequate documentation, training and support is available. Provide leadership in the application change management process with work request prioritization, business requirement management, test script management and execution, defect management and implementation strategy and support. Establish and maintain quality relationships with external resources, customers and vendors. Manages the daily activities and performance of project related contractor personnel ensuring project objectives, milestones and business needs are met.

Responsibilities

– Project Management – Initiate, plan, design, execute, monitor, control and implement quality deliverables while defining project objectives, scope, schedule and budget within a collaborative environment. Establish and maintain quality relationships with external resources, customers and vendors. Execute change management activities; ensure system users adopt new technology and use it productively and that adequate documentation, training and support is available. Identify business needs and determine solutions to business problems (software or process improvements) and provide leadership and direction across business units when implementing process changes. Collaborate with internal financial business units to determine project accounting.

– Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) Support – Provide leadership in the application change management process with work request prioritization, business requirement management, test script management and execution, defect management and implementation strategy and support. Collaborate with Business Systems (I/T) establishing work priorities that align with elevated business needs. Research new technologies and participate in strategic planning to define future opportunities that align with corporate strategy. Utilize Xcel Energy’s corporate Application Lifecycle Management tools and processes. Provide work direction as needed to the Geospatial Business Consultants as related to project development, reporting and implementation activities.

– Current/Future Data Improvement Projects – Proactively identify data quality and process improvement opportunities to ensure GIS, GIS related software and downstream applications contain complete and accurate data satisfying internal/ external business, local/federal government reporting needs. Respond to new or changed data requirements of advanced downstream applications, managing personnel to accomplish subsequent data integrity updates in GIS.

– Contractor Management – Directs Project Team Resources – Provides day-to-day work direction, priorities and monitors performance of project team contractor personnel to satisfy project objectives, milestones and business goals/ needs. Ensures project is staffed at the appropriate level and skill set to ensure successful delivery. Is an advocate for the end-to-end project process and ensures projects are consistently delivered within the framework.

Requirements

– Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Eng. or related or equiv. experience is required.

– Min. of 7 years application support or 10 years Utility experience, or any combination demonstrating equivalency.

– Demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively with senior management.

– Understanding of core business processes, industry trends, technology departments and I/T environments.

– Demonstrated ability to understand changes in business process and technology and effectively adapt technology to meet business needs.

– Superior communication skills and ability to articulate thoughts and ideas to others (verbal and written) including translating business requirements into technical terms and/or translating technical language into business terminology.

– Demonstrated ability to recommend innovative technology solutions to support complex business requirements.

– Superior relationship management, facilitation, project mgmt. and problem solving skills.

– Strong ability to coach and mentor less experienced team members.

– Strong knowledge of applicable PC programs and MS-Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Access).

– Ability to develop management style reporting and presentations (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel).

– May require travel across Xcel Energy Enterprise Service Territory.

Preferred

– Advanced Degree, PMP and/or GISP certification.
