Deputy Surveyor

Summary

The Deputy Surveyor assists the County Surveyor in: maintaining the County Survey database; assisting with field work in all sorts of conditions and environments; as well as interacting with the public in the field and in the office. This is a part-time position working 16 hours a week, exact work schedule will vary based on work load and weather conditions.

Part of the office work includes responding to public record requests.

Maintains U.S. Public Land Survey Monument Record tie sheets including the horizontal and vertical data shown thereon, (hard copies & database).

Assists in performing land surveys for maintenance, location, and relocation of section corners through use of GNSS equipment and/or robotic & conventional surveying equipment

Assumes the responsibility of the office in the absence of the Surveyor

Performs other duties as required.

Job Requirements, Education, Training & Experience:

– Experience in the Land Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, GIS fields

– A degree, (AAS, BS), will be given preference however, is not required

– Graduation from high school

– Valid Wisconsin driver’s license

Success Factors (KSA’s):

. General knowledge of the PLSS system

· General knowledge of advanced field surveying equipment

· Skill in reading, writing and basic math

· Knowledge of survey field techniques and survey language

· General knowledge of office scanning equipment and different file types, (pdf, tif, etc.)

· Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products, (Access, Word, Excel, etc.)

· Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

· Skill in taking legible and detailed field notes

. Ability to plumb prism poles
