Degree and area of specialization:
Minimum B.S. in Computer Science, Geography, Demography, Cartography/GIS or related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
- A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in web-development, including server side and enterprise database management, is preferred. Title prefix will be determined by years of relevant work experience.
- Preferred candidate will possess a B.S. in Computer Science, Geography, Demography, Cartography or other related discipline with a focus on web-based dissemination of demographic and spatial information.
- Experience working with large complex databases is essential, as are excellent communications skills and the ability to work collaboratively with peers.
- Familiarity with Census and American Community Survey data products and geographies is also favored.
- Candidate should possess a working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML 4 and 5, PHP and SQL. Preferred candidate will also have experience with PostGIS, Leaflet, openLayers, Mapbox, CartoDB, D3.js, ArcGIS, and/or ArcGIS Server.
- Some working knowledge of the UW Extension mission, organizational structure, and philosophy is desired.
Principal duties:
50% Manage and maintain APL websites and spatial web applications, such as GetFacts, Food Security and other demographic data disseminations tools. Support APL’s user support, training and evaluation efforts related to these tools.
30% Support outreach efforts of APL and UW Extension with development of new applications and open-source projects, including community information systems, custom web-based GIS services, and tools for geolocation, routing, and user-input data collection.
20% Develop, validate, and maintain databases used in aforementioned work. Perform server backups, implement updates and upgrade software necessary for aforementioned work.
