The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is responsible for oversight of the State’s Floodplain management program and implements a Floodplain Mapping program as a Cooperating Technical partner with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). We are currently seeking an engineer to manage the contracts and assure the quality of work of surveying and engineering consulting firms completing the work for the Floodplain Mapping Program. This position works out of the Department’s Central Headquarters located in downtown Madison – Wisconsin’s beautiful Capitol City and home of the world-renowned University of Wisconsin. This recruitment may be used to fill additional vacancies in the next 6-12 months in other geographic locations.
Job Duties: This position completes hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for complex floodplain engineering studies and develops digital floodplain limits and techniques to merge data into terrain models.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited University, PE or EIT certification and/or recognition by DSPS as an engineer
Education in or training and knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic analyses used for floodplain determinations. Experience developing and reviewing hydrologic and hydraulic models including HEC RAS and HEC HMS.
Education or training and knowledge of GIS technology and how it is applied to floodplain mapping, hydrologic modeling, and hydraulic modeling pertaining to natural flooding events. Ability to apply GIS technology to hydrologic and hydraulic analysis.
