GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision of the Quantitative Research Supervisor, performs data analysis and supports district data needs and research, evaluation and planning efforts. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Responding to complex and complicated data requests from organizations internal and external to MMSD. 
  • Evaluating and responding to requests for information from MMSD staff and the public. Working with requesters to clarify their needs and optimize the utility of research results. 
  • Retrieving and analyzing data using query language, statistical computer software, and other tools. Conducting analysis including distributions, ratios, significance tests, and other procedures. 
  • Collecting data using appropriate instruments and procedures. Conducting quantitative univariate and multivariate data analysis. Conducting qualitative analysis. 
  • Gathering statistical, program, or administrative data from original sources through the use of databases, surveys,special forms, routine reports, census data, and interviews. 
  • Coordinating the exchange of large datasets with external organizations including universities and private sector vendors for their contracted support of MMSD programs and projects. 
  • Supporting the development of reports to various administrative and policy bodies including Central Office leadership, principals, and the Board of Education. Updating the data portion of existing reports. 
  • Providing data to and collaborating with Central Office departments to create data collection tools that support the MMSD Strategic Framework and other district-wide planning tools. 
  • Assisting MMSD staff in the design and standardization of forms, reports, worksheets, or questionnaires as necessary to facilitate the collection, recording, analysis, and/or computation of data. 
  • Publishing district-wide and school-level accountability data to the Web, including interactive designs, choropleth maps, and innovative data representations. 
  • Providing data to support the application for various grants and assist with the monitoring of their success as needed. 
  • Collaborating with MMSD staff in other functional areas to compile and prepare analytical and summary data. 
  • Collaborating with MMSD staff to automate data collection, improve data quality, aid retrieval, and ensure programs are established and tracked in a way to facilitate program evaluation and audits. 
  • Assisting with reconciliation and preparation of information for annual and ad-hoc reports for the Superintendent’s Office and other MMSD administrators. 
  • Preparing and maintaining necessary charts, graphs, records, narrative reports, and bulletins for use by MMSD administrators, Board members, the public, and the media. 
  • Examining methodologies and underlying data of various reports from DPI and other sources. Examples include annual graduation rates and annual progress toward district and school performance goals expressed in DPI Accountability Report Cards. 
  • Contributing to the technical aspects of implementation of new data systems and modification to existing data systems. 
  • Contributing to the development, standardization and use of business intelligence software, namely the MMSD Data Dashboard, data warehouse and reporting tools. 
  • Participating in workgroup activities and collaborating with others on system development, integration, and implementation of interfaces with other data systems. 
  • Contributing to the development of technical data use tools, such as the school-based leadership team (SBLT) toolkit, data use guides, and materials to support assessment literacy throughout the District. 
  • Serving as the district’s primary resource for geographic information system (GIS) services. 
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
