There is a vacancy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for an Information Processing Consultant. This position would focus around database management and creation:

Principal duties:

  • Set up and populate a searchable, web-accessible database for integration with a wide range of ecological and environmental data used by multiple projects. Automate repetitive database activities (e.g., querying, data selection), and ensure access to database by research team using external programs such as R, ArcGIS, or Matlab. The candidate will participate in meetings to assess the needs of the research team and work with the team to establish the database design and user interface.
  • The candidate is supervised by a faculty member in the Department of Forest & Wildlife Ecology, with whom the individual will work to provide overall coordination and direction of research activities and analytical support.
  • 35% Development of a relational database management system and web-enabled user interface to archive and integrate data being developed by the Townsend and Zuckerberg laboratories.
  • 30% Populate the database and develop necessary metadata from the Townsend and Zuckerberg research teams.
  • 25% Perform custom data queries and analyses of data to the contribution of research papers and proposals by members of the Townsend and Zuckerberg research labs.
  • 10% Other duties as directed.
