The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is currently seeking a creative and dedicated GIS data coordinator.  The project appointment is approved for two years with a possibilty of an extension for another two years. The position is located in downtown Madison, WI, in the Office of the Great Lakes, 101 S. Webster St.

 

Job Duties:   This position will coordinate the acquisition processing and use of geospatial data to support sediment remediation, Lakewide Action and Management planning, and habitat restoration efforts in support of Wisconsin’s Great Lakes priorities. The position will be responsible for assembling geospatial data in support of sediment remediation analysis at contaminated sites, updating Wisconsin specific information in the Lakewide Management Plans for Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, and tracking restoration efforts in Wisconsin’s Great Lakes basins.

In addition, this position will be responsible for:

  • Converting and processing data into appropriate geospatial formats
  • Assisting in spatial analysis
  • Generating maps and graphs for reports, publications, and other outreach materials
  • Tracking remediation and restoration efforts in Wisconsin

The position will ensure adherence to industry and Department geospatial data standards and will generate and maintain appropriate metadata for these data. The position will collaborate with state partners, local RAP (Remedial Action Plans) implementation groups, other DNR program staff, neighboring State environmental program staff (Minnesota and Michigan), and Native Tribes on data sharing and data collection efforts that support program priorities and maximize the use of existing data when feasible. The position will provide guidance and support to other program staff on appropriate use of geospatial data and GIS software.
