Responsibilities
The survey crew chief is responsible for topographic, construction, engineering and land surveying activities. The position is based out of the Madison, WI office and includes both local and regional project work. Once immersed in the role, the incumbent can expect project work within reasonable distances from Madison.
Qualifications:
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
- Minimum 5 years work experience as a surveyor. Due to the unique nature of consulting engineering and planning services, prior experience in our industry is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with operation of total stations, data collectors, GPS systems and robotic instruments.
- Understanding and ability to use CADD software.
- Ability to work independently and with a crew.
- Ability to perform computations and QA/QC checks on work performed.
- Clean driving record with valid driver’s license and ability to pass USDOT driver check.
- Ability to safely operate ATV, UTV or similar vehicle.
- Resilience – Able to work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, dust, wind, etc.)
- Problem Solving Skills – Sensitive to budget and deadline constraints, often with competing and changing priorities.
- Customer Service – Must demonstrate clear commitment to delivering excellent customer service exemplified by the finished work product, be it a support service or tangible end-product.
- Interpersonal Skills – Due to the diverse roles and personalities within the organization, the incumbent must work effectively with individuals at all levels within the organization. Ability to communicate, work with, and take direction from client representatives in person and electronically.
- Communication Skills – Strong verbal and written communication skills are key to success in this role. Must convey thoughts, ideas and concepts clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; must be comfortable communicating with a variety of audiences within the firm as well as clients and vendors.
- Innovation – Displays original thinking and creativity; Meets challenges with resourcefulness; Generates suggestions for improving work; Develops innovative approaches and ideas.
- 2-year degree in civil engineering a plus.
