GIS Unit Supervisor

As the Systems Analysis Unit Supervisor (GIS Unit Supervisor) you will supervise the activities of the Geospatial Managed Hosting and GIS Service Bureau team at the MnGeo Office. This will include scheduling work assignments; hiring and evaluating staff; developing client relationships and working with agencies to understand their geospatial needs; project design and management; and geospatial application, data and services development and management. This position plays a key role in fulfilling responsibilities for coordinating geospatial technology activities within the Department and statewide.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume: 

Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in a GIS application/data support function AND two (2) years lead work/supervisory experience that demonstrate: 

-Knowledge and experience in geographical information systems, spatial concepts, coordinate geometry, and linear referencing systems 
-Demonstrable experience of geospatial data, applications, services and technology development and delivery 
-Knowledge and experience in the design and development of tools and frameworks for geospatial application/data architecture, modeling, design, development and programming 
-Knowledge and experience leading geospatial application/data development, testing and support teams 
-Knowledge and experience in business requirements analysis and project management methodologies and processes for application development 
-Knowledge and experience in developing client relationships and working with business to design and deliver geospatial technology and services 

A Master’s degree in Information Technology or a related field may substitute for three years of professional experience OR related Bachelor’s degree may substitute for two years OR related Associate’s may substitute for one year. 

Preferred Qualifications

-Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field 
-Significant knowledge of computer hardware and software required for GIS projects, notably ArcGIS, ArcServer and MapServer and other Open Source geospatial technology 
-Thorough understanding of MN.IT current and emerging development methodologies 
-Skill and expertise in developing, negotiating and managing contracts and service level expectations 
-Ability to lead highly technical staff
