Position Summary:
The GIS Intern provides technical support related to the Land Information program of the Ozaukee County Land Information Office. Employment will be for 599 hours with a pay range of $9-$10 an hour, dependant upon qualifications. Work hours per week will be flexible.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The GIS Intern will assist the Geographic Information Coordinator with most aspects related to the County GIS system within the Department including, but not limited to:
1. Assist with development and maintenance of the County GIS data resources including Parcel mapping, Computer Aided Dispatch mapping, Zoning mapping, etc.
2. Assist with development and maintenance of the County GIS Website to be utilized for public access of geographic data.
3. Assist with the data gathering and compilation, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), GPS, mapping, and data analysis.
4. Assist with communication (including recording meeting minutes) of the Department to County Board, committees, interest groups, partnering agencies and governments, consortium groups and the public.
5. Maintain a record of daily activities and provide a summary of work accomplishments as directed by your Supervisor.
Education and Skills Required:
Pursuing a degree (Bachelors or Masters) in geographic information systems, geography, planning, regional planning, urban planning, or other related field. Preferably a Junior status or higher. Experience (classroom or work) in GIS, GPS and/or website development desired. Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Working knowledge of methods and procedures needed to collect, draft and analyze GIS related data. Must possess good writing, research, communication and organizational skills. Experience with land information, parcel data, map and aerial photo interpretation and public land survey systems (PLSS) desired. Must be able to operate basic office equipment such as photocopy machines. Ability to work with limited supervision, independently establish priorities and complete tasks. Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license is preferred.
