JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction of the Land Information Director, develops and maintains the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data for the Forest County Potawatomi; produces maps, creates, collects, interprets and maintains GIS data. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepares GIS plans strategies, goals and objectives in accordance with applicable tribal, federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations.
2. Achieves financial objectives by administering annual budget; presenting and justifying budget recommendations to appropriate personnel; tracks project related expenditures.
3. Maintains the GPS and GIS databases in the form of geospatially referenced maps, navigation coordinates, and 3D modeling.
4. Collects data using Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment.
5. Processes collected field data to produce new GIS data layers; edits existing data layers.
6. Creates data using surveying notes, aerial photography, satellite data, GPS Data, tabular data and various maps.
7. Interprets data in various formats and correlates it within GIS.
8. Generates maps from source data.
9. Creates and distributes reports on data as needed.
10. Assigns fire numbers on tribal lands, coordinating with local governments to maintain accuracy and notifies applicable entities of newly assigned numbers.
11. Attends meetings regarding spatial data management.
12. Creates presentations and audio/video products.
13. Coordinates with other programs within and outside DNR to support project needs.
14. Performs computer programming and analytical project responsibilities which include; planning, analyzing, and performing quality control functions to geographic related systems.
15. Trains employees and departments on the operation of GPS units, GIS System and GPS related software.
16. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; conferring with representatives contracting agencies and related organizations.
17. Keeps abreast of new technologies in order to provide tools for efficiency in daily operations.
18. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography or related field, plus three years’ work experience in Geographical Information Systems. Current valid Wisconsin driver’s license. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

2. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements. Knowledge of Esri Arc Map, GPS and related software use and application
3. Knowledge of basic surveying techniques and principles
4. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

6. Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence.
7. Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

12. Skill in operating digitizers, plotters and drafting instruments
13. Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
