General Overview

The University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, Department of Geography and Earth Science in the College of Science and Health, invites applicants for a tenure-track position in Cartography/Geovisualization and GIS at the Assistant Professor level. This is a nine-month, full-time appointment to begin August 2015.

The successful candidate will have teaching and research interests in cartography/geovisualization and GIS; with areas of specialization in GIS, cartographic design, web mapping or web-based GIS with mobile computing/location-based services. We seek a faculty member who will demonstrate an interest in teaching at a comprehensive university, is dedicated to student success and willing to work collaboratively with colleagues in the Department and across the University.

 

Responsibilities

  • Courses in the fundamentals of cartographic principles, map design, web-based mapping, GIS, and the candidate’s areas of specialization
  • Teach one of the Department’s core general education courses
  • Demonstrate commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching
  • Develop an active research program seeking external grants
  • Participate in undergraduate research
  • Provide service to the University and broader community and profession

 

Minimum qualification

  • PhD. in Geography or closely related field required at time of appointment.
  • Must be able to teach introductory and upper level geovisualization/cartography courses using cartographic/GIS software.
  • Technical expertise in ArcGIS, MAPublisher, and programming with either Python, Java, Javascript, or HTML5 required.
