This position serves as the Urban Forest Inventory Specialist in the Bureau of Forestry Business Services. Under general supervision, the Urban Forest Inventory Specialist works under the guidance of the Forest Products Services Team Leader and Urban and Rural Forest Inventory Analyst within the Bureau of Forestry Business Services. As part of a team, this position will lead the development of an integrated urban forest inventory program using fixed ground plots, remotely sensed canopy data and existing data aggregation to provide urban forest data and analysis to resource managers.
The work will include collaboration with researchers to develop a classification system of remotely sensed data to measure urban forest canopy cover, the creation of a database to collate data from existing urban tree inventory data, definition of parameters for a statewide plot-based urban forest inventory, creating queries and reports from these urban forest datasets, and using GIS to spatially analyze these data.
This position will be responsible for consultation with numerous internal and external WDNR clients. Occasional travel within the state is required.
