Dane County Planning & Development is seeking a limited term employee to assist with our remapping effort associated with the remonumentation project.

 

PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Department of Planning and Development, perform maintenance of the Dane County digital tax parcel GIS data layer; draft and compute operations involved in updating and maintaining the digital parcel GIS data layer, using ESRI’s ArcMap and related software modules including, but not limited to coordinate geometry.

 

FUNCTION:

Update digital GIS maps by adding new parcels and subdivisions created by land divisions; maintain the digital tax parcel database; research and review legal recorded document with the Register of Deeds; maintaining other digital GIS data sets as needed.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must have experience in computer science, cartography/GIS, geography, surveying, civil engineering or related field with at least two years of experience using ESRI GIS products, including ArcMap and coordinate geometry.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of principles and techniques of coordinate system transformations and projections; knowledge of digital data input methods including coordinate geometry, knowledge of topological data structures and relational database management systems; familiarity with general principles of cartography and cadastral land records modernization; ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; ability to operate ESRI software as well as the Microsoft Office suite of products and ability to work effectively with others.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have experience with ESRI software. Dane County may complete a criminal background check on applicants who progress to a certain stage in the application process. Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position’s responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant’s criminal history.
