Position Summary: WisDOT has an opportunity for an entry-level Transportation Modeler in our Traffic Forecasting Section. This position focuses on improving travel demand models and communicating model attributes (socioeconomic data, network and scripts) to stakeholders.
Job Duties: The Transportation Modeler provides analysis and support for long-range planning and project development to help build transportation improvement programs. The position provides travel estimates for transportation projects, traffic impact analysis, corridor studies, and other WisDOT analysis. Stakeholders depend on this person to assist in traffic forecasts, assistance with data and utilizing travel demand models.
The responsibilities of this position involve travel forecast production using multiple regression analysis, travel demand techniques and geographical information systems (GIS) analysis skills. This position will also be required to communicate technical information related to travel demand model activities to non-technical audiences and stakeholders.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of travel demand modeling techniques (i.e. trip generation, trip distribution, mode choice, etc.)
- Knowledge of demand modeling software (i.e. CUBE TP+, geographic information systems (ArcGIS), spreadsheet software (Excel, Acess, etc.))
- Excellent writing (email and report writing) skills to produce technical reports, executive summaries, and plans

- Experience or training with travel demand modeling software, geographic information systems software, and/or spreadsheet software
- Experience with travel demand modeling (i.e. 4-step models, traffic flow, trip generation, trip productions, traffic analysis zones, annual average daily traffic, etc.)
