Job Description
We are presently seeking to fill the role of GIS Specialist to assist us in providing quality GIS and cartographic services to support Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance’s staff and project teams. Reporting to the Executive Director, the GIS Specialist is responsible for the acquisition, management and dissemination of spatial data and the design and production of maps for project planning and publications. This role offers the opportunity to work independently on a variety of different projects as the GIS expert for the Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance. Essential Job Functions
- Work with watershed partners to design, develop, and maintain a web mapping application that serves as Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance’s data discovery and dissemination portal.
- Design and produce maps, publications, communications and outreach materials as needed to support education efforts, advance projects or complete grant proposals.
- Provide GIS services and cartographic support to FWWA staff, project teams and other partners as necessary.
- Research, acquire, and manage spatial and non-spatial data in support of projects and map production.
- Establish working relationship with information management staff at partner organizations to advance projects.
- Website maintenance support and design.
- Provide basic IT support and troubleshooting for the office, liaison with internet and technology providers, coordinate with IT consultant for technical support when needed.
- Lead in technology management for the Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance, is responsible for keeping up to date on current technologies, as well as their possible applications for the organization.
- Maintain general knowledge of the Fox and Wolf River basin, watershed management and stormwater.
- Assist with special projects, programs and fundraising initiatives such as newsletters, annual membership solicitations, special appeals, business sponsorships and watershed cleanup.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- University degree/diploma or equivalent work experience in GIS and/or geoscience.
- 2+ years of work experience in the use of GIS.
- Strong GIS and cartographic skills.
- Proficient in the ESRI suite of products (ArcGIS for Desktop, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS for Server)
- Knowledge of GIS scripting language (For example; Python, Java Script)
- Knowledge and interest in developing web mapping application.
- Working knowledge of website design service (For example; WordPress, Dreamweaver)
- Working knowledge of graphic design programs such as Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
- Technically savvy, with the ability to coordinate the IT requirements for a small office.
- Strong ability to multitask in a busy environment, with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, at both a technical and non-technical level.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, in a team setting, with partners and with the public.
- Ability to learn quickly and independently learn new skills.
This position is a part-time position, GIS Specialist will work an average of 20 hours/week. Work hours flexible, coordinator will be able to work from home and our office in Appleton, WI. Must be able to drive to meetings and events throughout the Fox-Wolf River Basin. Pay based on experience $20-$25 / hour.
