This position is a 2yr – grant supported position and is dependent upon grant funds. There is no obligation for the position to be extended beyond the proposed grant cycle.

General Definition of Work

This 28 hours per week position must possess a thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of soil and water conservation in rural areas. Working knowledge of NRCS – Technical Standards, working experience in the GIS environment, using ARC GIS version 10.1 Strong skills are required in public speaking.

Job Duties

  • Assist landowners in the Willow and Rush River watersheds (both St. Croix and Pierce Counties) with soil and water conservation issues on rural land parcels. Knowledge of NRCS – Technical standards, NR-151 standards and prohibitions and ability to evaluate and assess agricultural and/or rural land parcels and apply the correct technical standard to the resource concern.
  • Strong working knowledge of NRCS programs with the ability to market local, State and Federal conservation programs to rural landowners.
  • Strong public speaking/oral skill sets are required. Individual will be required to present and conduct at public meetings, presentations, field demonstrations, small group settings and one to one contacts.
  • General knowledge of wetland and grassland restorations.
  • Strong skill set in working in the GIS- Arc map environment 10.1 and Auto-Cad. Ability to use GPS equipment, uploading and downloading data into applicable software. Working knowledge in the Microsoft products, such as word, excel, outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Keep daily records, monitor, maintain records assigned by supervisors or grant deliverables, prepare reports as specified by supervisor or grant requirements.
  • Responsible to meet all the deliverables and time lines set forth in the NFWF grant.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of environmental sciences, agriculture, agronomy, Natural Resource Conservation. 
  • Preferred 1-2 years of related field experience performing soil and water conservation work, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
