Overview:
TDS provides broadband services to consumer and business customers in twenty-eight states. Fundamental to its service offerings are the networks that TDS owns and operates which TDS continuously evolves to meet customer needs. The TDS Network Services Outside Plant Engineering team is charged with: designing the outside plant cable networks, ensuring effective delivery of services and optimal performance.
In this role on the outside plant engineering team, students will learn about:
- Outside Plant Engineering principles and ,practices
- Communication facilities, equipment and materials
- Gathering and compiling field information
- Preparing Outside Plant Engineering designs, plans, maps, reports, estimates, quantities and other related documents.
This position will require a significant amount of daily data entry work related to legal records. A successful candidate will possess attention to detail, will have a strong technical aptitude, will have the ability to quickly and efficiently learn applications, systems, policies and procedures, and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work both independently and on team assignments. Local travel may be required occasi9onally. Posession of a valid driver’s license is mandatory. The candidate must provide his/her own transportation when the occasion demands.

Responsibilities:
While engaged in the TDS – Outside Plant Engineering Internship Program, one can expect to enhance their knowledge base and experience in one or many of the following areas:
- Support OSPE Engineer
- Help gather field information
- Help prepare and review designs
- Help compile quantities
- Help compile budget estimates
- Help prepare AutoCAD/ GIS plans
- Help prepare contract documents
- Attend project meetings
- Help maintain engineering records
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- 1+ year(s) of Engineering or Communications experience
- 1 + semester in the study of Communications, Engineering, Drafting, Surveying, GIS, Construction or other relatable field.
Other Qualifications
- 2+ years computer experience including AutoCAD, ESRI, MS Office Suite
- Ability to drive self to field meetings and field work locations
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and with others
