Overview:

The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin is seeking to fill an internship with the State Broadband Office (SBO) for a duration of 6 months to 1 year. The SBO collects internet coverage data from service providers throughout the state and maintains map applications for use by the public. The SBO also implements several annual surveys assessing broadband demand and access throughout the state. To further the agency’s efforts with these and other components of the broadband program, the SBO is pursuing an individual with skills in web development and GIS.

 

Job Duties:

* Assist in development of data/infographic-driven web applications.

* Research and perform quality control over spatial and non-spatial data.

* Prepare maps and presentations as needed.

* Identify, evaluate, and obtain external datasets for inclusion into the agency’s broadband mapping database.

* Modify and update existing data as needed.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Familiarity with open source web technologies. Knowledge of Drupal, HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript preferred, although other technologies will be considered.

* Formal training or experience using ESRI GIS software including, but not limited to ArcGIS for Desktop and Microsoft Office required.

* Demonstrated knowledge of geodatabase management using manual and automated methods (such as Python scripting and Model Builder) recommended.

* Knowledge of ArcGIS for Server, SQL Server, Microsoft Access, and other office software is considered a plus.

* Ability to communicate and interact effectively with supervisors and other staff.

The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, or related fields or have equivalent work experience. However, students (graduate or undergraduate) currently enrolled at an accredited university pursuing a related degree are encouraged to apply.
