The GIS Analyst supports the delivery of healthcare strategic planning and consulting services by collecting, building, and analyzing data. This position builds an understanding of healthcare and our client’s challenges and begins to formulate possible solutions by performing extensive data collection and analysis. 

The GIS Analyst builds the analytical and consulting skills and healthcare knowledge and experience necessary to progress in their career at ERDMAN. The GIS Analyst is responsible for performing analyses using Esri’s ArcGIS product to create maps and models to supplement advance planning analysis. The analyst leverages Esri subscription data in addition to other purchased or public data to assist clients in making strategic decisions.

Strategic Planning and Market Intelligence

 

  • Completes market studies
  • Analyzes client’s market service area including existing patient origin and key demographic and socioeconomic information that influence current and future demand for healthcare services
  • Collects and analyzes information surrounding economic and market conditions
  • Collects and analyzes physician-demand data to determine appropriate staffing to service the market
  • Assists with research and analysis to support GIS targeting and territory planning
  • Creates market reports to support regional business development teams
  • Creates standardized maps using demographic projections, competitor analysis, market participants, healthcare utilization trends and relevant retail data for consulting engagements
  • Creates market reports to provide advance planning analysis to various stakeholders
  • Designs, develops, tests, deploys and documents data and mapping models
  • Recommends potential strategies based on business development, competition and market driven factors
  • Identifies new ways to present and package client information and relevant data to drive decision making

 

Information Systems

 

  • Maintains GIS platform and   guides vendor relationship(s)
  • Leads development of new uses of geospatial maps and reports   with relevant industry data to add value to clients 
  • Manages departmental databases, completes annual updates and identifies efficiencies in handling and manipulation of large diverse data sets 
  • Maintains interdepartmental relationship with IT team to ensure   secure server and secure file transfer processes meet HIPAA security and easy to utilize by clients

 

Operational  and Space Utilization 

 

  • Assists in conducting audits of client’s existing operations
  • Collects and analyze physician and patient encounter data to compare against national and internal ERDMAN “best practice” benchmarks
  • Creates capacity analysis of existing resources to accommodate target patient volumes for   each specialty and service 
  • Collects and analyze data relative to patient, information and provider flow and support staff functions 
  • Develops utilization analyses and begin to formulate volume projections  
  • Collaborates with consulting team to develop findings and recommended actions for alternative operational models and staffing required to support planned service lines 
  • Develops presentation materials to deliver summary of findings and recommendations 

 

Education

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, statistics, operations management, industrial engineering or related field that relies heavily on critical thinking, logic, and math

 

Experience

 

  • 2-4 years of analytical experience, preferably in healthcare
  • Knowledge and experience in the healthcare industry, preferred

Knowledge and Training

 

  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Strong aptitude to collect large amounts of qualitative and quantitative data
  • Ability to effectively document concepts to confirm data, compare and contrast viewpoints, test alternative concepts and probe for additional insight
  • Strong computer aptitude, including proficiency in modeling and analysis using GIS software and datasets, ESRI, ArcGIS Desktop (v10.3 and later), Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Business Analyst extension, Python, Model Builder, ArcGIS Server, SQL preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with team members to achieve results in tight timeframes
  • Strong problem solving skills, including the ability to break down processes into logical components and construct clear reasoning and analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport, and interact with various levels of professionals
