The Department of Geography, Environment and Society in the College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position to begin fall semester 2016. This is a probationary (tenure-track) appointment at the rank of assistant professor. This is a 100%-time position over the nine-month academic year (late-August to late-May), beginning August 29, 2016.
We seek a Geographic Information Scientist who contributes to traditional departmental strengths in geovisualization and cartography, spatial analysis and modeling, and/or GIS and society. Desirable are secondary research interests in computation on large datasets or examining population and/or health issues via spatial science approaches.
A Ph.D. in Geography or related discipline must be completed by 08/29/16. Advanced ABD’s may be considered for appointment at the rank of tenure-track instructor, with the understanding that the Ph.D. is conferred in the first year of appointment. Review of complete applications will begin on October 9, 2015, and will continue until the position is filled.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a strong program of research and publication; external research support; undergraduate and graduate instruction and advising; and provide service to the department, college, University, and profession appropriate for the rank of appointment.
Candidates will be evaluated according to (a) the overall quality of their academic preparation and scholarly work; (b) the relevance of their scholarly research to the department’s academic priorities and fields of inquiry; (c) evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher; and (d) strength of recommendations.
Salary will be competitive, dependent upon the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, and consistent with collegiate and University policies.
