PURPOSE:

Responsible for Dairyland’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The GIS Specialist will also provide professional expertise for the necessary coordination, development, implementation, and maintenance of Dairyland’s GIS.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Support spatial processing, geospatial data provisioning, geodatabase design, and web service.
  2. Responsible for developing geospatial data for use in enterprise systems. Data sets will include: vector data, elevation data, and imagery.
  3. Responsible for developing models and scripts to automate geoprocessing.
  4. Responsible for the complete life cycle for managing geospatial data in an enterprise environment – including development, provisioning, and deployment.
  5. Provide technical support to users or clients regarding the maintenance, development, or operation of GIS databases, equipment, or applications.
  6. Responsible for all software upgrades of the GIS system. Work in conjunction with IT and other associated departments when needed. Document budgetary requests to supervisor.
  7. Responsible for new data entry as well as maintenance and updating/correction of existing data.
  8. Work with external vendors to optimize or add functionality to the existing GIS system as well as read current literature, talk with colleagues, continue education, and participate in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in GIS technology, equipment, or systems.
  9. Prepare maps, drawings, and geospatial analysis for Dairyland employees.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in GIS related field. May consider Associate Degree with three (3) years work experience in GIS using Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) products.

Special Training:

Candidate should understand how to use the ESRI Toolset – desktop and geoprocessing tools.

Skills:

Basic skills in understanding datum and coordinate system(s) are required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and AutoCAD. Excellent technical writing skills and the ability to document data and processes required.

Licenses and Certifications:

Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) certifications will be evaluated. Continuing education expected. Valid Driver’s License is required.

Physical Demands:

Extended periods of viewing a computer monitor, with extensive keyboard and mouse usage. Requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting, and bending.

Environmental Demands:

Works primarily indoors, occasionally outdoors as directed. Outdoor work may be in all types of weather conditions.
