The Business Development Research Manager conducts research on economic development, industry, and business trends; analyzes key issues, legislation, trends, and reports; and produces high quality reports and presentations for management review and/or public presentations as well as provides support and training to users with various resources. 

The Business Development Research Manager has the following primary roles: 

1) Manage research program to provide information for decision making including market research, competitive intelligence, workforce information, industry growth forecasts (domestic and foreign),business costs and other customized research as requested. 
2) Analyze economic development projects and programs and provide information for strategic decision making to stakeholders. 
3) Provide sound, concise, and timely recommendations based on research to advance WEDC’s economic development efforts. 
4) Review and analyze information collected by WEDC and its network of partners. 
5) Deliver professional, quality reports that accurately and effectively convey information and data.
6) Provide quality and timely response to stakeholder requests for research, data, or research tool technical assistance. 
7) Demonstrate core values and behaviors of WEDC. 
8) Effectively demonstrate communication, organization, problem solving, project management, continuous improvement and interpersonal skills. 
9) Ensure WEDC is a leader by remaining apprised of other economic development advancements nationwide. 
10) Facilitate training, provide support and resources for users.

Requirements & Qualifications 

Education and Experience: 

• Minimum of two years of experience in economics, statistics, business analysis, urban or regional planning, public policy or related field required. 
• Bachelor’s degree in Economic Development, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Information Systems, Economic Geography, Geography, Cartography, Sociology, Community Development, Urban or Regional Planning, Urban Design, Economics, Business Administration, Public Policy or related field; Master’s degree preferred. 
• Certified Community Researcher (CCR), Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), or Economic Development Financial Professional (EDFP). 

Skills and Talents: 

• Understanding of economic development theory and practice. 
• Versed in economic tools to analyze labor market information and other types of data (e.g. Shift Share 
Analysis, Location Quotients, and Regression Analysis). 
• Strong quantitative, qualitative, analytical and problem solving skills. 
• Proficiency in navigating public resources to attain labor market and business intelligence information. 
• Familiarity with CRM and research products such as, fDi Intelligence, InfoGroup, EMSI, and ESRI. 
• PC applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database management and Windows software. 
• Strong project management and organizational skills. 
• Highly structured, organized and attentive to detail. 
• Confidence in operating within a client-facing environment. 
• Strong research, writing, and communication skills required. 
• Ability to develop relationships across traditional boundaries. 
• Thorough understanding of economic and business conditions and practices. 
• Possess a high level of knowledge of state and federal laws/regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
