GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This is an hourly (24-38.75 hours a week; approximately 30 weeks) skilled position reporting to the Engineering Division’s Mapping and GIS section. Applicants will be a graduate of or pursuing a degree in the field of Surveying, Geography, GIS or related field or have related experience. The main purpose of this position will be to aid the Mapping section’s day to day operations of editing, maintaining, and Quality Controlling Engineering’s mapping data (including storm sewer, sanitary sewer, parcels and official map data).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties will include:

Using aerial photography to QC existing data sets and heads up digitize new features into Bentley MapGo through various Access or SQL databases to QC, clean up and add data using a variety of CAD/Raster/ GIS source dataUse PLSS and land division techniques to COGO in parcel boundariesRead engineering plan & profile sheets to update sanitary and storm sewer informationFulfill data and map requests from City and outside clientsOther administrative duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of and ability to use computers and software applicable to the duties of the position (Microsoft Office, CAD/GIS software etc). Ability to pay attention to details. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.  Ability to maintain adequate attendance.

Training and Experience:

Basic familiarity and experience with CAD/GIS data and software, land division terminology, database functionality, and geo-spatial principals. Specific experience in Microstation, Bentley Map and scripting & programming are a plus.  Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this positions will also be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to work 3-5 days a week during normal business hours (7:30 am – 4 pm).

Physical Requirements:

Work is sedentary in nature, generally performed in an office environment using office equipment such as telephone, computer, copier, calculator, etc.
