We are actively seeking to add a key member to our engineering staff. The Outside Plant (OSP) Engineer we are seeking must be able to multitask and handle multiple projects while assuring time lines are met and must have an in-depth understanding of OSP engineering to be able to manage the process from concept design to as-built data entry.
Essential Job Functions:
• Prepare project documentation, maps, permits, and CAD drawings
• Consistently exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance; coordinating in-house and contracted resources to meet customer deadlines, efficient allocation of fiber assets throughout network, and tactfully resolving customer concerns
• Maintain and manage records of fiber rings, splice locations, network mapping software/database
• Research and acquire permits, Rights of Way and Easement Agreements
• Review and validate As-Built documentation from Subcontractors
• Attend customer meetings, and perform site surveys/walk-outs, as necessary, to understand customer requirements and time frames
Education:
High school diploma required, college or military preferred.
Required Skills and/or Experience:
• 5+ years of relevant (technical knowledge of the industry, construction practices, and local governing authority rules for placement of telecommunications facilities) experience required. CAD or GIS experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required
• Must be comfortable interacting within all levels of company and customer organizations
• Ability to work with minimum supervision
• Thorough understanding of utility industry practices/standards, operations, contract management with emphasis on fiber projects
• Strong understanding of aerial and underground facilities engineering
• Ability to maintain a high level of productivity, assuring time-frames is met for projects occurring simultaneously, and generates reports on project status
• Experience in researching and assisting in performing site acquisition activities such as permit and right of entry agreements, up to and including fielding and creation of permit prints
• Ability to effectively solve problems when appropriate.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe/acceptable driving record
• Ability to work hours outside of normal schedule with little or no advance notification required. Travel may be required at times in order to perform job specific tasks
The position of OSP Engineer at MWFN requires the ability to work in an office setting, as well as on active construction sites. This position includes, but is not limited to, significant time sitting, standing or walking on uneven ground, possible climbing of ladders or being in high places, working in tight spaces and, can be physically demanding.
