POSITION SUMMARY

The Conservation Information Manager will oversee the management and analysis of regional conservation information. This individual will build the technical capacity of Chicago Wilderness through the procurement, synthesis, management, and analysis of spatial and non-spatial information. This position will also assist with development and implementation of a regional data strategy. As a part of this strategy, the Conservation Information Manager will help create an information infrastructure for the alliance that facilitates the utilization, maintenance, and dissemination of key information across multiple organizations. As the technical lead for this effort, the Conservation Information Manager will work with Chicago Wilderness staff, members, partners, and consultants on the system implementation and ongoing maintenance. This is a new and critical position for Chicago Wilderness, providing a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic and creative individual to help shape a collaborative approach to conservation data in our region.

RESPONSIBILITIES  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Build and manage relational databases, including spatially capable ones
  • Acquire, generate, synthesize, and analyze a wide range of spatial and non-spatial data sets
  • Create informal and publication quality maps using GIS software
  • Support regional strategy development and implementation for the CW Data Focus Area
  • Foster and maintain productive relationships with members and partners around data
  • Plan and facilitate meetings with member organizations
  • Manage projects
  • Coordinate project consultants

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MS or BS degree in natural resources, information management, or a related field that properly informs the skills as described
  • Minimum five years experience related to data management and analysis
  • Experience designing and maintaining enterprise-level data management systems to meet organizational needs
  • Experience in spatial data analysis
  • Experience with statistical programming
  • Proficient in ArcGIS software products
  • General understanding of regional conservation issues
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently as appropriate
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Chicago Wilderness Region
