GIS Network Specialist

A Network Specialist is a highly technical, entry-level position who will be responsible for completing small, well defined network design, engineering, mapping of network and data within GIS and web apps.

• Create and perform analysis on network designs for the OSP teams utilizing GIS tools and extensions.  Provide the data back for the OSP teams to use in strategic decisions, AD’s and HLDROM’s.
• Partner with Reginal OSP Engineering (OSPE) members on engineering of network builds with in GIS.
• Assist in training OSPE members on the use, functions and tools with in GIS
• Review data for impacts to builds (eg: Roadmoves)
• Create processes and tools for mobile use of GIS for data collection and consumption.
• Provide technical leadership in evaluating current GIS products being offered on the market and provides recommendations for upgrades and changes in methods of practice for TDS. Includes application upgrades and data sources

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher -AND- 2 + years work experience in Voice/Data/Video networking -OR- 4 + years experience in Voice/Data/Video networking.
• 1 + year of GIS experience

Other Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Geography or GIS or related area.
• Data modeling with in GIS
• Basic Engineering Principals for Communication

Is familiar with the following areas and has a working technical knowledge in one or more:

• Must have the ability to convey GIS/graphics information to non-GIS and interact cooperatively with colleagues to develop project requirements, identify and coordinate user needs, and gather and share compiled information.
• Solid understanding of cartographic design, map projections, horizontal and vertical datum, and complementary technologies such as remote sensing and GPS
• General understanding of: Microsoft SQL, Oracle SQL, and AutoCAD
• Experienced with the following: ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Mobile, ArcPad, 3D Analyst, ArcSDE, OpenStreetMap, Spatial Analyst, Model Builder, Python, C+/C#, Java, HTML, CSS,  Microsoft Office 2010
• Ability to understand GIS fundamentals: Map projections, topology, relational databases, cartographic standards, data acquisition and manipulation.
• Advanced working knowledge of latest release of the ESRI application suite
• Knowledge of relational database concepts and skills in creating and maintaining relational databases, linking them with GIS.
• Must be able to organize and maintain tabular and spatial data for fast retrieval, and collaborate effectively as part of a team to produce project deliverables and to solve problems using GIS tools
