The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is currently filling a Wildlife Management Systems Coordinator position in the Bureau of Wildlife Management. This position is stationed at our Central Office Headquarters in Madison, WI.
The DNR is dedicated to working with the citizens and businesses of Wisconsin while preserving and enhancing its natural resources. In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.
Job Duties:
The Bureau of Wildlife Management’s land management system coordinator leads the development of specialized tabular and geospatial IT applications to ensure the Division and the Bureau of Wildlife Management are able to meet their business needs. The position will analyze new or emerging IT technologies and provide guidance to program management and other IT staff in the program. This position will coordinate and provide training of the program-specific applications to wildlife staff. Furthermore, this position will coordinate all GIS application development insuring sound geo-spatial data quality and data management.
The position requires a strong knowledge base and experience in designing, developing and managing all IT/GIS application development efforts. The position will serve as the business analyst and/or project manager with the aptitude and desire for creating business solutions. The position must use specialized knowledge of complex emerging technologies to lead cross program analyses, development, and implementation within the agency, in consultation with BTS staff. This position will provide consultation on all tabular and geo-spatial related Wildlife information systems. The position provides direction and technical expertise in land management data systems to all program staff. The position provides service to the Wildlife Program in all DNR regions to promote consistency of information system design, development, and implementation.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of wildlife biology and how it relates to habitat and land management activities.
- Knowledge and experience in the in the development and management of natural resource information systems including, field data collection (e.g. field computers and GPS), data modeling, GIS, and the creation of natural resource applications
- Knowledge of remote sensing technologies including digital imaging, ground control and aerial photography use in natural resources.
- Knowledge of information system analysis, investigating parameters, and developing prototypes for employing complex technology into system development projects.
- Knowledge of network systems.
- Knowledge of web systems.
- Specialized knowledge of the relationship between complex emerging technologies, information systems, and their application across programs in an enterprise context.
- Knowledge of state and federal grants procedures.
- Knowledge of wildlife and natural resource management concepts.
- Knowledge of state laws, administrative rules, codes and procedures relating to wildlife and natural resources.
