This position exists to provide technical support to a portfolio of DNR Forestry Division business applications. Support includes Geospatial Information System development and design, database analysis, troubleshooting, data management and stewardship duties. The position is part of a team of information system professionals that support Forestry business operations and its program managers and system end-users. 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Support and direct the integration of GIS in Forestry Information Systems so that current GIS technology is effectively utilized to meet the information needs of the division and its business partners.
  • Provide technical end-user and development support on Forestry Business Applications.
  • Analyze, design, and develop applications and databases to meet Forestry’s operational and informational needs.
  • Support the operation and upkeep of Forestry Oracle and PostgreSQL databases.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of GIS technologies and database design and development.

Miniumum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume. This position requires a minimum of three (3) years of GIS data management, analysis, and reporting. Experience must include the following:

  • Cartography to include map design, coordinate systems, projections, scale, and resolution issues.
  • Enterprise geodatabase experience on Oracle or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience writing SQL queries for data definition, manipulation, selection and deletion.
  • Experience with ESRI desktop suite of tools and extensions.
  • Version control and configuration management tools and procedures (GIT, SVN, or other).
  • Python development experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PL/SQL functions and stored procedures.
  • Remote sensing concepts and theory to include imagery sources, its availability and formats such as satellite data (Landsat, SPOT, NOAA), aerial photo data (9×9″ state & federal, 35mm, 70mm), scan digitizing of photos and geometric transformation, video and scanner data, data standards, and image processing methods.
  • Reporting tools such as Crystal Enterprise. 
  • N-tier Web applications development using: MVC architecture; HTML/DHTML, JavaScript; XML, XSL, JSON and related technologies; Web Services concepts and practical application.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • ArcGIS service creation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual studio using C#.net and VB.net, or both.
  • Natural Resource/Forestry background.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
