The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (District) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of GIS Technician. Under the direction of the GIS Supervisor the successful candidate will assess the Diggers Hotline ticket requests, provide GIS information, and maintain the District’s GIS maps and data to fulfill requests, in compliance with District policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Repsonsibilities

  • Assess Diggers Hotline ticket requests in accordance with established procedures
  • Assist with updates and maintenance of GIS databases and District maps
  • Fulfill customer requests in a timely manner in compliance with department processes by providing data, maps, reports and related deliverables
  • Assist customers in the retrieval of District records, ensuring their timely location/duplication
  • Ensure the completion of all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
  • Maintain technical competency and knowledge of industry changes
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Complete geospatial projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in GIS Technology or related field with a minimum of 12 GIS course credits.
  • One year of professional experience with Esri product suite (including ArcGIS Desktop); or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to meet expectations of internal and external customers
  • File management and electronic document management systems experience
  • Proficiency in interpreting utility record drawings, sketches, and supporting engineering materials
  • Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency, as well as experience with peripheral office equipment including copiers and large scale scanners/plotters
  • Familiarity with web GIS (e.g., ArcGIS Online or similar) desirable
  • Valid Driver’s License

Residency within the MMSD boundaries; Milwaukee County (excluding South Milwaukee) required within one year.
