POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Reference Editor for the History of Cartography Project
33% UW Graduate Student Project Assistant
Position begins 1 July 2016
The History of Cartography Project, based at the UW-Madison, is an international research and editorial venture that produces the award-winning History of Cartography series. The unique, interdisciplinary reference resource is published by the University of Chicago Press. Work on the six-volume series is currently focused on the European Enlightenment and the nineteenth century.
Primary duties
· Proofread and fact check manuscripts
· Check references against original sources
· Format manuscripts to University of Chicago Press style
· Work with editors worldwide and correspond with authors
· Library work and research
Required skills
· Excellent writing and editing skills
· Thoroughness and attention to detail
· Ability to work independently
· Experience with Microsoft Word
· Graduate student status; prefer at least two years remaining at UW
Helpful experience
· Familiarity with campus libraries and web-based academic research tools
· Background in history, cartography, or historical geography
· Foreign language skills
Salary and benefits
· Standard UW–Madison Graduate School salary, tuition remission, and benefits
(including vacation, sick leave, and health insurance)
· Renewable appointment on a twelve-month cycle
