Job Description

The Geospatial Technician will extract feature and/or terrain data from a variety of sources and conduct research to fully prepare the data for our clients.  This is an entry level position where project specific training will be provided.  The Geospatial Technician will be producing data and products in accordance with customer’s requirements to be completed on time and within budget.  The candidate will possess strong technical skills, having an understanding of and experience with the manipulation of geospatial data. While working on assigned projects the Geospatial Technician will work closely with the Project Lead and Quality Control staff, reporting current status, any quality concerns and address other project related items.  The Geospatial Technician will report directly to their POD Lead with assistance from their Team Lead on daily work related activities.  The Geospatial Technician is required to learn the tools needed to complete assigned tasks and demonstrates a willingness to improve their workflow and quality.  

Essential Functions and Responsibiliites

  • Extract feature and/or terrain data from a variety of sources
  • Conduct research to full prepare and populate attribution from available sources
  • Assist in work procedures/checklist updates and/or creation
  • Perform product finishing tasks to client content and quality specifications
  • Conduct peer review of data prior to QC where applicable
  • Must have a current and active clearance that can be transferred to Continental Mapping upon hire.
  • Shares best practices with other employees
  • Implements guidance adjustment information given by project lead
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS
  • Strong stereographic vision
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in completing assignments.
  • Outstanding organizational skills; strong ability to manage multiple assignments under deadlines; high level of personal initiative to follow-through.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and respond to problems as they occur with diplomacy, common sense, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, recognizing problems and finding solutions.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively.
  • Strong understanding of spatial relationships, in the real world and databases.
  • Ability to learn photo interpretation, and to decisively apply those skills.
  • Required: ESRI Production Mapping suite of tools needed. Microsoft Office suite
  • Preferred: Data Reviewer, Workflow Manager, and Task Assistant Manager extensions,GAIT, Socet Set, Conflation Technologies, Map Compilation, Arc SDE, Database Schema Mapping, Open Source research techniques.

Experience and Education

  • Minimal job experience. Entry level. Associates or Bachelor’s Degree.
  • The Geospatial Technician does not require prior professional experience.But related experience through their college degree, internships or professional jobs is preferred.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Geography or related geospatial science or equivalent professional experience.
