This is an advanced technical and management position responsible for assisting with the development and stewardship of the over 60 million gross square feet of University of Wisconsin System facilities infrastructure valued at over $13 billion. This position is an essential part of a team of professionals; the work is performed with a high degree of independence within the framework of university and state policies, laws, and procedures.
This position provides leadership in managing the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and land information aspects of the UW System portfolio. Primary responsibilities include modernizing the land information records; developing, maintaining, and expanding an enterprise geographic information system (GIS); and establishing high quality processes and standards to manage UW System real property asset information. These services will provide improved support of campus master planning, long range and biennial capital planning, space utilization and optimization, environmental assessments, risk management and facilities maintenance and renewal. The GIS will enable UW System to facilitate asset-centric facilities management, improve data-informed decisions, and optimize resource allocation in support of UW System’s mission. Additionally, this individual will provide general consulting to all UW System institutions, and technical assistance to UW System Administration staff, UW System President, and indirectly, to the Board of Regents with regard to GIS and real property data.
Minimum Qualifications
In order to be considered for this position, a candidate must have:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in land inventory, GIS systems or related fields;
- Bachelor degree in land information systems or closely related field such as geography, cartography, landscape architecture, real estate management, or civil engineering, or similar field;
- Experience in developing, managing and maintaining GIS systems and geographically based data sets;
Preferred Qualifications
A well-qualified candidate will also have:
- Experience with Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) ArcGIS Desktop Software
- Knowledge of fundamental methodologies to perform technical geospatial data collection, processing, coordinate conversion, QA/QC, and management of GIS data.
- Experience in complex analysis of data sets, data modeling and design, and reporting;
- Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of the real estate field;
- Knowledge of capital asset management programs
- Experience managing multiple clients, entities, locations, and/or institutions with competing priorities and schedules.
- Experience defining and documenting standards, policies, and procedures as they relate to data collection, storage, and management.
